I had been looking for a natural way to wash my clothes, and so I went searching online. I ran across something called "Maggie's Soap Nuts" and thought there's NO WAY something that grows on trees could clean my clothes. Being the curious person I am, I had to give it a try.
I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised. Soap Nuts are the dried fruit of the Chinease Soapberry tree. You put a couple of them into a cotton bag, toss them in the wash, and let them do their stuff.
They are 100% biodegradable, safe for all fabrics - including silk and wool, and are hypoallergenic. Besides being a good cleaner, they also help to soften your clothes, as well. Soap Nuts are low sudsing so they're ideal for HE (high-efficiency) machines.
Another happy Maggie's user said: "I found Maggie's Soap Nuts work as well or better than other laundry products for cleaning my clothes. I prefer to use environmentally friendly products and I feel soap nuts are more natural than the other so-called natural detergents because they don't have any chemicals added at all."
While they're a little bit expensive, about $10 for 16-20 loads, I think people will like them as much as I do. You can purchase them by going to www.amazon.com.
